The Toulmin model can help critical thinking because it allows you to compartmentalize whatever argument you plan to present. In other words, the Toulmin model is a method that breaks down arguments into six parts. These are: claim, grounds, warrant, qualifier, rebuttal, and backing. The first three of focus are claim, grounds, and warrant. Immediately your critical thinking becomes active because you can organize what your claim or assertion is. Then with whatever evidence or grounds you attain, you can critically think as to which piece of evidence supports your claim.
